Barbeque is one of the oldest and most heavenly cooking traditions one can experience. It brings a unique and mouth-watering flavor to the meat. The way it is done depends on things like our culture, our traditions, and our taste buds. However, the most delightful technique that is known all over America is the St. Louis style BBQ.

The St. Louis Style BBQ is world-famous due to numerous reasons, but the main reason is the succulent taste it offers. St. Louis style BBQ is a long standing tradition to many is St. Louis and abroad. Unlike those orthodox methods where meat is ready with a good rub, the meat in St. Louis BBQ is grilled and smeared with a good load of sauce along with its beautiful appearance.

Whether it is the barbeque ribs, smoked turkey, briskets, or pork. St. Louis BBQ always provides a distinctive flavoring sensation. Here are few aspects that help make good St. Louis style BBQ here at Sharpshooter Pit and Grill St. Louis.

Cutting up the Meat

This style of BBQ mainly focuses on how the meat has been butchered before its ready to be put on the smoke rack or the grill. One essential thing in this process is the removal of the extra parts from the meat and then later using them for side dishes.

The meat is not only sliced up for its clean-cut appearance but also because it needs to be grilled or smoked in a way that it becomes perfectly tender.

Grilling or Smoking

The option of grilling or smoking the meat normally depends on the liking of the feaster. If the BBQ is well smoked, it can deliver a unique flavor to the meat. Charcoal smoker and wood chunks are generally used to acquire a range of flavors.

People in St. Louis normally prefer meat on a grill, which is accomplished by charcoal, electric, and gas grills. This equipment is to set on 225 degrees Fahrenheit before the meant is put on so it can be perfectly tender.

There are various BBQ restaurants in St. Louis that provide these options. However, Sharpshooters Pit & Grill is considered one of if not the best place in St. Louis to get a St. Louis Style BBQ of your choice.

The Sauce

When someone says St. Louis style BBQ, it means grilled, then sauced meat. The sauces that are used are sweet and sour and one of the vital ingredients of a St. Louis style BBQ. A variety of these sauces include ingredients like vinegar, mustard, ketchup, apple cider, white sauce, Worcestershire sauce, and much more.

The process of saucing usually starts in the last 15-30 minutes, and the meat is then set in foil for the sauces to kick in.

Serving St. Louis Style BBQ

Once the ribs are done being rested, and the sauces have sunk in, it’s time to serve it up and eat. Either it is smoked turkey, beef brisket, or pulled pork, all of them are served with an extra supply of BBQ sauces to enhance the flavor.

St. Louis BBQ is world-famous and so delicious, it’s no wonder people are looking for a good St. Louis BBQ restaurant to enjoy. It’s different from other kinds of BBQ styles available in the US because the ribs and meat are cooked right on the grill.

Another thing that makes St. Louis BBQ different is the cut of the meat. The sauce is also a huge part of what makes this BBQ style so incredible and different from others. St. Louis BBQ has a thicker and sweeter tomato-based sauce, so it’s not as vinegary as other BBQ sauces out there. It’s finger-licking good and it makes the BBQ experience so much better.

A good barbecue is more than the sum of its parts.

Real good barbecue is the result of magic that occurs between heat, meat, spice, and smoke.

Cooking up a batch of good barbecue is an art form.

Here at SHARPSHOOTERS PIT AND GRILL, we pride ourselves in our world-class barbecue ribs, brisket, and smoked meats.

No Place Like St Louis

The United States is a large country with a diverse culinary landscape, especially when it comes to barbecue. From the Carolinas to Texas, from Memphis to Alabama, meats are smoked and grilled with a passion that nears religious fervor.

But if there is a place that serves unquestionably good barbecue, it is Missouri. Missourians have been perfecting the technique of slow-cooking and smoking good cuts of meat for ages, and the results are more than evident.

St. Louis in particular is the Mecca of good barbecue. Thousands of local grills compete for the title of the best barbecue in town, and do so in hundreds of world-class culinary competitions every year. And while each place prepares its own specialties and secret sauces, some spots rise above the rest.

The restaurant industry was one of the first victims of the Coronavirus shutdowns. However, in the midst of the crisis, you can still find interesting, tasty, and attractive gastronomic proposals if you know where to look.

Fortunately, we know where to look.

Let’s talk about SharpShooter Pit and Grill, the best BBQ restaurant in St. Louis.

Bang Good Barbecue!

Sharpshooters Pit and Grill is a top-of-the-line barbeque restaurant located inside of the all-new, state of the art St. Louis SharpShooter shooting range, the area’s premier training academy and education institution in all firearms-related training.

This newest and largest world-class indoor shooting range has a lot of things going for it, but I can honestly say, with a shred of doubt, that the main draw of Sharpshooters is the on-site smoked brisket and turkey offerings.

Smoked daily, with a new batch cooked to perfection every single day. Sharpshooters Pit and Grill closes when they run out of food. And with food as tasty as theirs, and prices as friendly as theirs, some days they sell out fast!

Their baby-back rib platters are super generous and super tasty. Ribs are cooked to fall-off-the-bone perfection and smothered in a deliciously tangy sauce that is made with just the right amount of spice. This is home-made quality, Sunday BBQ dinner style goodness.

The Pit and Grill also offers a fantastic array of smoked sandwiches. Served on a buttery soft bun, with a side of your choice of baked beans, potato salad, coleslaw, green beans, or applesauce, these sandwiches are oh-so-good delicious.

Whether you go for the classic slow-cooked pulled pork, the smoked tender brisket, or smoked turkey, you’ll be rewarded with an honest to goodness best in category sandwich.

There is also a smoked BLT on the menu, which I’ve yet to try, but can predict will be delicious as well.

For those looking for a leaner option, there are two salad choices and they are both equally delicious. There is the standard fresh green salad, and my favorite, the smoked meat salad which includes fresh lettuce, tomato, and the choice of your favorite smoked meat.

I almost forgot to mention the wings and nachos. Any self-respecting BBQ restaurant will have specialty wings and nacho to round out the menu, and the Sharpshooters Pit and Grill do not disappoint in this regard.

I thank goodness every day that Sharpshooters are still operating during the COVID-19 outbreak, albeit with limited hours. Also important to mention that, like most restaurants open at this time, they are also limited to curbside or carry-out service only. For more information or to place an order, please call them at 314-353-4745.

Your BBQ might be tender, but if it doesn't pack a flavor punch, then your BBQ is lacking. Period. Full stop.

How do the culinary geniuses of the Sharpshooter’s kitchen prepare such fantastic, great-tasting food?

They do two things right in my book:

First of all, they serve fresh, cooked-daily food until it runs out. These guys cook smart, so when you hit up Sharpshooter’s Pit and Grill from some mouth-watering BBQ after a day of shooting, you can rest assured that there won’t be any reheated food on your plate. Second, they know how to smoke. If you have never smoked a cut of meat in your life you might not know how darned difficult it is to do it properly. A million things can go wrong when you smoke meat, and all of them can leave you with a bunch of bitter, foul-tasting food. Sharpshooter’s Pit and Grill serves some of the tastiest smoked cuts in the country because they understand the complexities of the process. They burn the right wood, with the right amount of moisture and the right amount of oxygen to guarantee the creation of that tasty bark we all love and expect.

Bang Good BBQ

If you are ever in the St. Loius area and you like BBQ, then you owe yourself the opportunity to try the menu at Sharpshooter’s Pit and Grill.

You will do as I did: I came for the guns, but I stayed for the food!
